Rafeena has over a decade of insurance defence experience where she was a partner at a prominent downtown law firm. She has appeared at various levels of court where she has successfully argued on behalf of her insurer clients. Her practice focusses mainly tort, subrogation and property damage litigation.
In 2016, Rafeena developed and implemented a health justice program in collaboration with Osgoode law school’s community legal clinic. The program was devised to provide specialized legal services to clients experiencing mental health crises in the Jane and Finch and Rexdale communities. She additionally supervised and taught Osgoode law students who were enrolled in the program for academic credits.
Rafeena has spent a year serving as the director of a human rights organization in Western Africa. In this role, she implemented several programs including alternative resolution training for the local judiciary while supervising legal professionals from around the world.
Rafeena studied law at the University of Dalhousie and clerked for the Chief Justice of the Supreme court of Prince Edward Island. In addition to practicing in Ontario, she is called to the bar in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. She enjoys attending out of province appearances on behalf of her insurer clients.
Rafeena studied yoga in Bali where she obtained her vinyasa teacher’s certificate. You can find her on the mat when not in a courtroom.
